Department of Entrepreneurship & Leadership

The Department of Entrepreneurship & Leadership provides a diverse array of resources for all U-M students, including a variety of funding sources, for those invested in becoming the arts leaders of tomorrow. Offering multiple points of entry–from co-curricular workshops, granting programs, and applied learning opportunities to single-credit courses and certificate and minor programs–students can engage with a variety of topics across the spectrum of arts entrepreneurship, management and leadership studies, while honing practical skills and knowledge that will amplify their artistry. Whether focused on individual career development, starting a new venture, or innovating within organizations, the Department offers a customizable academic foundation upon which students will learn how to transform their ideas into action. Undergraduates may complete the Performing Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (PAME) minor, while graduate students can earn a certificate in arts entrepreneurship and leadership.

The EXCEL Lab is the co-curricular office within the Department of Entrepreneurship & Leadership that provides a wealth of resources to help each SMTD student launch and sustain a life in the arts. From career coaching services, to events featuring special guests, excursions to cultural centers, and more than $100,000 in annual student support funding, EXCEL expands the professional development bandwidth of your degree program and support a variety of your needs, from the job search to project management and more.
