Peter Cohn, born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, is pursuing joint degrees in Music Theory, Music Composition and Judaic Studies. He also studies flute with Professor Amy Porter and participates in the University’s Marching Band and Concert Band. He has participated in the Michigan Youth Ensembles, the Michigan All-State Band and the Vienna Summer Music Festival Composer’s Forum.

As a composer, he draws inspiration from history, literature, and his Jewish heritage. He is particularly inspired by Ravel, Dvorak, and Alfred Reed, and from Klezmer and Jewish cantoral traditions. As a theorist, he’s particularly interested in counterpoint, modality, and the way these systems of theorizing music can be applied to other musical traditions.

Peter is also an avid baker, especially of pastries and Jewish delicacies, and enjoys traveling, reading, and anything creative.
