Engagement & Outreach Community Programs Coordinator


Demetrius Shields (he/him) is a dancer, arts administrator, choreographer and writer from Detroit, MI. Prior to joining the SMTD staff he served as Dance Department Co-Chair at Detroit School of Arts. As a performer in NYC for over a decade he has had the chance to dance in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in Rockefeller Center, in addition to a multitude of commercial theatre, film, and interdisciplinary opportunities globally. Demetrius has graduated from University of the Arts (B.F.A Dance Education) and Drexel University (M.S Arts Administration). He is really excited to be joining the SMTD Staff as the Office of Engagement and Outreach’s Community Programs Coordinator.

Demetrius is really involved in the community and currently serves on the board of the Michigan Dance Council, as well as Living Arts (Detroit).
