Colleen Conway, Recipient of Teaching Excellence Award, to Deliver Lecture

Jan 23, 2023 | Awards & Accolades, Faculty, News

Last January, Colleen Conway, professor of music education, was named the recipient of the 2022 SMTD Teaching Excellence Award. As part of receiving this award, Conway will deliver the lecture “Music Teacher Learning and Development” on January 30, 2023, at 7 p.m. The lecture, which is free and open to all, will take place in Watkins Recital Hall in the Earl V. Moore Building.

Expressing her reaction to winning the Teaching Excellence Award, Conway said, “Even after more than 25 years in higher education and seven years in K-12 public schools, the art of teaching is still exciting for me every day. It is humbling to be recognized for something I enjoy so much.”

As part of her talk, Conway will discuss many of the studies she has conducted throughout her career on pre-service and in-service music educators. Eleven alumni of the Department of Music Education’s PhD program in music teacher education, all of whom worked with Conway on their dissertations, will also speak at the event, either in person, virtually, or via a pre-recorded message.

The lecture will conclude with Conway examining future directions for music teacher education. The lecture will be followed by a reception.
