Dear SMTD Students,
On Sunday evening, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued an emergency order that outlines new measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. The order restricts post-secondary level instruction and states that only classes involving health care, medical and first-responder programs can continue face to face starting Wednesday, November 18th.
In-person courses
All in-person classes at SMTD will conclude on Tuesday evening.
Ensembles, Productions, and Recitals
After Tuesday evening, all in-person ensembles, productions, juries and recitals are canceled for the remainder of the term. Please be in touch with your instructor for questions surrounding how these activities will wrap up for the semester. Per the order, gatherings are prohibited in performance venues, and existing reservations will be removed through December 8, 2020.
The SMTD Concerto Competition Preliminary Rounds for Strings and Piano will now be held remotely. Further information will be sent to current applicants later today.

To reschedule your jury, please contact your department chair or instructor.
Recordings
Scheduled recordings can continue so long as they are solo and self-facilitated. Please contact Paul Feeny by Wednesday, November 18th, if your recording qualifies under these restrictions, otherwise, your reservation will be removed and we will work with you to reschedule.
Recording equipment (Camcorders, USB microphones, and portable audio recorders) can be checked out here.

Facilities Access
Practice rooms and rehearsal spaces will continue to be open for individual use only. No gatherings are allowed in any SMTD facility. We ask that you continue to comply with all aspects of the SMTD safety plan. For questions regarding facilities use, please contact Ben Thauland.
