2018 SMTD Concerto Competition Winners Announced

The 2018 School of Music, Theatre & Dance Concerto Competition winners have been announced. The winners in the undergraduate category are:

Yu Chao Weng, BM ’19, violin, who performed Béla Bartók’s Violin Concerto no. 2, accompanied by Narae Joo on piano.

Jiyuan Zhang, BM’ 18, piano, who performed Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, accompanied by Oliver Jia on piano.

In the graduate category, the winners are:

Danielle Gonzalez, MM ’19, percussion / chamber music, who performed Jennifer Higdon’s Percussion Concerto, accompanied by Liz Ames on piano.

Christine Harada Li, DMA ’20, violin, who performed Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto, accompanied by Narae Joo on piano. Christine also earned her BM in violin performance at SMTD in 2012, and her specialist’s degree in 2017.

The competitions took place on January 3 and 4 at Hill Auditorium. Each of the winners will perform their competition piece with one of the School’s orchestras in an upcoming SMTD concert at Hill. Details will be available soon on the Calendar of Events. Congratulations to the winners!
