Baroque Chamber Orchestra

Guest artist and Baroque oboist Caroline Giassi joins the Baroque Chamber Orchestra for a performance of works from England, France, and Italy from the 16th to the 18th centuries. She will be joined by SMTD undergraduate bassoonist Benjamin Weppler in one of Vivaldi’s concerti for oboe and bassoon. As a part of the ensemble’s study of improvisation and ornamentation this semester, the orchestra will present an improvised accompaniment to the second movement of this concerto.

The University of Michigan’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra studies and performs repertoire from the late Renaissance, Baroque, and the early Classical periods. Using period instruments and replicas from the university’s growing Stearns Collection, the musicians gain vital hands-on experience and learn about the history and context of early music and performance practice.
