Perspectives on Contemporary Music Theory: A Conference in Honor of Kevin Korsyn

The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance will sponsor a conference to celebrate the publication of Perspectives on Contemporary Music Theory: Essays in Honor of Kevin Korsyn, edited by Bryan Parkhurst and Jeffrey Swinkin (Routledge 2023). The event is free and open to the public.

Speakers will include Harald Krebs (University of Victoria), René Rusch (University of Michigan), Alan Gosman (University of Arkansas), Eric Wen (Curtis Institute of Music), Jeffrey Swinkin (University of Oklahoma), Bryan Parkhurst (Oberlin College and Conservatory), Michael Klein (Temple University), and Patricia Hall (University of Michigan). Elizabeth Sears, George H. Forsyth Jr. Collegiate Professor of Art History at the University of Michigan, will deliver the Keynote Address, and David Gier, Dean of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance and Paul Boylan Collegiate Professor of Music, will deliver some closing remarks. The conference will conclude with a performance by Shuntaro Sugie, harpsichord, of Kevin Korsyn’s completion of Contrapunctus 14, the unfinished quadruple fugue from J.S. Bach’s Art of Fugue.
