Join us for a concert of experimental and contemporary music blending traditional Korea instruments with innovative sounds. For this special performance, ensemble PHASE presents a program inspired by the life and legacy of Ilhan New, the Korean American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and University of Michigan alumnus. Through innovative musical interpretations, the performance explores the intersections of Korean and American experiences, offering a fresh artistic perspective on New’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.
ensemble PHASE is a collective of musicians committed to challenging, experimental work – creating and sharing a diverse body of music that draws on traditional Korean instruments while embracing a wide range of musical languages. Since its founding in 2017, the ensemble has given roughly 20 performances and 5 workshops, released 3 albums, toured internationally 10 times, and commissioned and premiered around 50 new works with leading artists from Korea and abroad.
