Join the USO for this performance of the evocative and ultimately optimistic Seventh Symphony by Gustav Mahler, conducted by its music director Kenneth Kiesler. Sometimes called the Song of the Night, two of its five movements are nocturnes. One of them is a folksy sort of night-patrol or march, and the other a romantic serenade, complete with guitar and mandolin. The movement between them evokes goblins and spirits in a macabre dance. From these nightwalks and nightsongs, there are bells and drums and brass fanfares, as a brightly lit and positive view of the world emerges.
