GUEST ARTIST BIO
Already in her third month of studies in Germany, Korean pianist SUA LEE made her concerto debut with Jenaer Philharmonie in Weimarhalle. As soloist Lee also performed with the Kyiv Soloists at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, and with the University Philharmonia Orchestra at Hill Auditorium as winner of the 2021 SMTD Undergraduate Concerto Competition. As the winner of other competitions, Lee performed at Sheremetev Palace, Saint Petersburg, and Lincoln Center. Lee was a Fellow at the 2022 Gilmore Piano Festival, receiving masterclass instructions from Paul Schenly and George Li. Her other masterclass mentors include Konstantin Scherbakov, Robert Levin, Michel Dalberto, Gábor Eckhardt, and Lev Natochenny. As Lee envisions sharing the joy and consolation of music with everyone, her performance venues extend to Interlochen Public Radio Station, Redeemer Church Traverse City, University of Michigan Hospital, Brookhaven Senior Living, Marie-Seebach Stiftung, and so on.
Lee is a 2022 graduate with Highest Honours at the University of Michigan, where she studied with Christopher Harding while also developing interests in musicology with Steven Whiting and collaborative piano with Martin Katz, and also pursued a minor in German Studies. Lee currently studies the piano with Christian Wilm Müller and fortepiano with Ying-Li Lo at Hochschule für Musik Weimar as a fully-funded DAAD scholarship recipient.
A church pianist since age 13 and having made recordings of hymnal arrangements with violinist Lishan Wu, Lee believes playing music also as an expression of her faith. Speaking four languages and having translated for present-day composer biographies and in masterclasses, Lee seeks to promote music and musicians in various ways.
