“What a giftless bastard!” — from the diaries of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, speaking about Johannes Brahms

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) had a style of writing chamber music that stood out among his Romantic period peers. His writing for strings and piano included both orchestral and soloistic elements, expressing rigorous formal structures through richly elegant melodies and lush accompanying lines. The Michigan Chamber Players present his late Violin Sonata No. 2 and early String Sextet No. 1 as a celebration of this inspiring voice and an invitation to connect through musical passion, drama, and beauty.

And, to prove Tchaikovsky wrong.
