The University Symphony Orchestra and music director Kenneth Kiesler join with internationally acclaimed saxophonist Timothy McAllister for the world premiere of Saxophone Concerto by distinguished composer Adolphus Hailstork. The 5th premiere of ten-year initiative MORE (Michigan Orchestra Repertoire for Equity), the work was commissioned by Gail Haefner Straith and the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The premiere and recording of the new concerto are a partnership of the USO and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert also features John Corigliano’s witty and exuberant Promenade Overture and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the dazzling and colorful showpiece for orchestra inspired by One Thousand and One Nights.
