SMTD Ticket Policies
Updated November 5, 2024
Ticket Resales
Your ticket is a revocable license. Tickets may not be purchased for the primary purpose of resale and may be canceled at the complete and sole discretion of SMTD.
Unauthorized Ticketing Agents
SMTD assumes no liability for tickets purchased through unauthorized sales channels, including thehillauditorium.com (which is not affiliated with SMTD or Hill Auditorium in any way), Craigslist, eBay, StubHub, and other secondary market or ticket broker services. We strongly advise against purchasing tickets from any source other than the UMS/SMTD League Ticket Office or tickets.smtd.umich.edu, which remains the only authorized sales channel for most performances.
Tickets purchased from unauthorized sources may be stolen, counterfeit, or otherwise compromised, and if so, are not valid for event admission. If you are unsure whether a ticket seller has been authorized to sell SMTD tickets, please contact the Ticket Office at 734.764.2538 prior to purchasing from that source.

Tickets may not be purchased for the primary purpose of resale and may be canceled at the complete and sole discretion of SMTD. SMTD reserves the right to monitor sales and withhold season ticket renewal opportunities or cancel ticket orders from accounts that exhibit activity consistent with that of a ticket broker.
Ticket brokers are defined as ticket holders who purchase tickets with the primary intent of reselling their tickets for profit or whose accounts indicate high levels of secondary market activity. Furthermore, ticket holders attempting to circumvent established ticket limits by creating numerous accounts or any other method may have their tickets canceled at the complete and sole discretion of SMTD. SMTD also reserves the right to change the ticket delivery method to will-call and to require presentation of both photo ID and the credit card used to purchase the ticket(s).
Ticket Prices
Ticket prices vary by production and venue. Please see the performance listing for more information. Some performances may have additional bulk purchase discounts; these will be listed on the show pages.
Seat Selection
You will select your own seats when you purchase. If you would like assistance in selecting the most appropriate seats, please contact the box office by phone, or stop in during business hours. Seats are first-come, first-served; order early to obtain the best seats.
Processing Fees
Fees of $3-$5 are added to the cost of each individual ticket purchased over the phone or online. These fees are reflected in the listed ticket price on each performance. To avoid or minimize these fees, you may:
- Purchase in person at the League Ticket Office.
- Purchase a Flex Series package. Flex Series subscribers pay a handling fee of just $8 on their total order when purchasing their packages. However, single tickets purchased on separate orders will be subject to the individual ticket processing fees.
Ticket Packages
Flex Series ticket packages are available for purchase until January 19, 2025. Buy 4 or more performances and receive a 10% discount off the standard ticket price, priority ordering next year, and extended fee-free exchange options if you can no longer attend the performance.
Learn more about Flex Series and Student Flex Series options.
Ticket Package Exclusions
- Men’s & Women’s Glee Club concerts and the annual Musical Theatre Senior Showcase are not eligible for purchase as part of the Flex Series package.
Offsite Performances
- Occasional ticketed performances take place in off-site venues. This year, these performances include the Department of Musical Theatre’s performance of Bat Boy at Encore Musical Theatre in Dexter and the Jazz Ensemble’s annual concert at the Ark in April. Tickets for these performances can be purchased at their respective venues. They are not available as part of our ticket packages.
Groups
We love groups! Groups of 10 or more attending a single performance receive a discount of 20% off the ticket price (or, for groups of students, a price of $11 per ticket). We also waive our fees! Our group sales are managed by UMS. To place your group order, contact our group sales desk at 734-763-3100 or [email protected].
Children
With the exception of the Halloween Concert or other specified performances, children under the age of three will not be admitted into performances. All children, regardless of age, must have their own ticket and must be able to sit quietly in their own seats throughout the performance. Discounted tickets are available for children and high school students; please contact the box office for assistance.
University Student Tickets
Discounted tickets are available for students attending any college or university. Student status must be verified by a student ID at the box office at the time of pick-up.
- Limit TWO per university student. If you and another student would like to purchase more than two tickets together, please contact the box office for assistance.
- Student tickets are accessible via the use of a promo code, which will be made available on the main ticketing page at tickets.smtd.umich.edu.
- Student tickets must be purchased separately from other tickets.
- The box office cannot release partial orders containing discounted tickets.
- Student price is listed when available. When standard tickets are available at or below the usual student rate, additional student discounts will not be available.
- Most student tickets cannot be mailed or emailed. Verified students (students whose IDs have been verified by the box office) may have their tickets mailed if they choose.
- The student discount cannot be combined with other discounts.
- Student tickets are available in select locations for most performances. For seats closer to the stage, please consider a student Flex Series ticket package.
Waitlists
For sold-out performances, a wait list will be started when the box office opens at the venue for that performance date. Wait lists are in-person only and are not a guarantee of entrance, but we do our best to get people into performances as other patrons release unused tickets.
Late Seating
Late seating is not guaranteed and varies per performance. Please leave ample time for parking and arrival (please note: event parking on campus is credit card-only). See below for more information on parking.
If You Can No Longer Attend
If you can no longer use your tickets, you may choose to exchange or donate your tickets. Tickets are non-refundable except in the case of cancellation.
You may exchange your tickets for any future performance of any production within the season. We do not require that you exchange your tickets for another performance of the same production. There is a $5 exchange fee per ticket. Flex Series subscribers may exchange their tickets up to 48 hours in advance with no fee.
Alternately, tickets may be returned to the box office as a tax-deductible donation. All donations must be received prior to the performance start time. The revenue generated by your donation will go directly to support future performances, productions, and academic programs.
Parking
Parking is often limited at our performance venues. We recommend planning ahead and arriving as early as possible, especially if your ticket is held at Will-Call. Late arrivals may be asked to wait before being seated if the performance has already begun. Event parking on the University of Michigan campus is $10 and a credit or debit card is required. There will be attendants at the parking lots/structures to take your payment – parking cannot be purchased online ahead of time.
Because of construction on North Campus, parking at venues will be especially difficult. Our Maps & Directions page details venue locations, parking and transit options.
