Gregory Keller is pleased to return to the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at UMich to stage two more upcoming operas, Hänsel und Gretel and Cosí fan tutte, after having directed Elizabeth Cree here last spring. Over his 30-year career, he has created numerous original productions, including: Gianni Schicchi and Madama Butterfly for Hawai`i Opera Theatre. L’incoronazione di Poppea and Il Turco in Italia at Wolf Trap Opera. Le nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, L’heure espagnole and The Old Maid and the Thief for Berkshire Opera. Tosca, Salome, Susannah, and a punk-rock version of The Pirates of Penzance for Cedar Rapids Opera. Carmen and La Bohème at the Jacksonville Symphony. Cosí fan tutte for Houston Grand Opera’s Studio Program. Peter Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King, and Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer with Eos Orchestra. His theatre piece, Patriot Act, enjoyed a sold-out run at New York Theatre Workshop and was broadcast nationwide on cable TV. Gregory recently retired after 26 seasons as a Stage Director at the Metropolitan Opera, where he staged acclaimed revivals of La Bohème, La fanciulla del West, Salome, Lulu, Wozzeck, Luisa Miller, Gianni Schicchi, Rigoletto, Le nozze di Figaro, and Don Giovanni.
