SMTD Student Emergency Fund

Need-Based Financial Aid
University and federally funded need-based financial aid programs (including University grants and loans, Pell Grants, College Work Study, and Stafford Loans) are administered by the Office of Financial Aid (OFA). Continuing students who wish to be considered for the full range of need-based programs must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) before April 1st in any calendar year. Application materials and further instructions are available on the Office of Financial Aid website.
Merit-Based Financial Aid
Any currently admitted undergraduate or graduate student in the SMTD may apply for a merit-based scholarship. All incoming students are automatically reviewed for a scholarship award through the admission application, and those first year undergraduates and transfer students currently receiving a scholarship do not need to complete an application. All Music students awarded merit-based scholarships must participate in a large ensemble as stipulated by the department. A list of applicable ensembles is available in room 2277 Moore.
Approved Large Ensembles for Scholarship Students
Undergraduate and Masters students in music and musical theatre who receive SMTD merit-based scholarships are required to participate in one of the following ensembles each semester:
Music Performance, Composition, Music Education, Musicology & Theory
ENS 345/545: University Philharmonia & Symphony Orchestra
ENS 347/547: Symphony Band & Concert Band
ENS 349/549: University Choir
ENS 350/550: University Chamber Choir
ENS 470: Orpheus Singers
ENS 460: Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Lab Ensemble
Performing Arts Technology
Performing Arts Technology and Music Technology students may elect the following:

MUSTHTRE 280/480: Production Performance
MUSTHTRE: 496: Seniors only may elect MUSTHRE 496 during the winter term
Offices such as the University Libraries, Health Services, University Hospital, Student Accounts, and Student Loans may place a financial hold on a student’s record when the student account shows indebtedness. This hold prevents a student from obtaining a transcript or diploma, and enrolling for future classes.
If a student owes money to Student Accounts or Student Loans, the bill may be paid through Wolverine Access or at the the Cashier’s window in the LSA Building or Pierpont Commons. If paying in person, it is necessary to tell the Cashier that a financial hold exists so that it is removed in a timely manner. All other debts must be paid directly to the office to which the student owes money. The associated receipt must then be taken to the Cashier’s Office in order for the hold to be removed.
