This Bass Clarinet (Simple System) in B Flat has a one-piece, dark stained maple body with brass goose neck and upturned bell. It has twenty-one brass keys of modern cup type mounted on pillars (attached to elliptical brass plates; one key is mounted in a brass saddle). It has two speaker keys and pillars for L4 and R4 keys soldered to an extended arm of a rod and axle mechanism. It has brass reinforcing pins; it also has an ebony mouthpiece with brass ferrule. The piece is signed, "[lyre] / (within oval) BUFFET / Crampon & / Cie / A PARIS / (below oval) [monogram:] B C".
