Dance Department Tour & Class Visits

The Department of Dance studios and offices are located on Central Campus. We offer observation of Dance classes on the following days/times: Dance Class Info. Our faculty will often invite prospective students to participate in class. Please bring (dance) clothes that allow you to move if you would like to take class.

Joe GramleyOur extraordinary faculty includes performers currently active on the international stage, highly experienced former members of symphony orchestras, opera houses, and dance and theatre companies, prize-winning composers, and renowned scholars in theory and musicology.

Many faculty members welcome the opportunity to visit with prospective students, and many are available for private lessons. Please contact our faculty members directly, as they schedule their own appointments and have unique policies for visits, lesson fees, etc.

Live Performances

Into the WoodsEach year, students and faculty of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance present more than 450 concerts, recitals, and staged performances in Ann Arbor.  Experiencing a live performance offers the best perspective about the level of artistry at the University of Michigan. You may wish to plan your visit around a specific concert or performance. Visit our Calendar of Events to see what's coming up!





Central Campus Tours & Information Sessions

UM DiagAvailable 10:00 AM–12:30 PM and 1:00–3:00 PM.

A nice complement to your visit, this student-led tour takes you through several central campus buildings, where most academic classes are held. Registration for these sessions must be completed online through our Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments

Stearns Collection of Musical InstrumentsHolding over 2,500 pieces of historical and contemporary musical instruments from all over the world, the Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments is one of the largest accumulations of such artifacts housed in a North American university.

Residence Halls

Bursley HallTours of most residence halls are available Monday through Friday during the U-M Spring & Summer sessions.  Tours are provided to admitted students and family members as part of the Campus Day program in March & April, as well as to students participating in the Summer Orientation Program. Virtual Tours are always available on the Housing Website.

Living Arts is an interdisciplinary living learning community located in Bursley Hall and comprises students from the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, School of Art & Design, College of Engineering, and Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning. The focus of this community is exploring the creative process and how it is approached from a variety of disciplines. Prospective students and families are welcome to schedule a tour of the Living Arts Studio in Bursley Hall.
