Designed for students seeking intensive and specialized professional training in chamber music. Applicants must possess a master’s degree in music or its equivalent, along with substantial solo and ensemble repertoire.
Curriculum
The Specialist in Music in Chamber Music requires a minimum of 30 credits. Coursework to include:
- Private lessons
- Ensemble participation
- Non-performance SMTD electives
Final Project
Two full ensemble chamber music performances (minimum 70 minutes of music each) featuring a variety of chamber music showing programmatic & stylistic depth & breadth.

Applicants must:
- Apply to U-M via the SMTD Graduate Application by December 1
- Submit an SMTD Artistic Profile by December 1 for a live audition
- Have all supplemental materials sent to SMTD
