Revered and beloved J. Edgar Maddy Distinguished University Emeritus Professor of Voice at SMTD, tenor GEORGE SHIRLEY, is the recipient of countless accolades, including a Grammy and the 2014 National Medal of Arts, presented by President Barack Obama. Professor Shirley will be celebrated this afternoon by colleagues, current and former students, family, friends and fans from near and far in a program of music and memories, honoring his life, career and legacy. Moore Collegiate Professor in Music, and Artur Schnabel Collegiate Professor in Piano – performs his last recital at SMTD, celebrating 40 years on the faculty. Katz performs music by Fauré, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, Pizzetti, Korngold, Vaughn-Williams and more, and is joined by SMTD alumni baritone Jesse Blumberg and tenor Daniel McGrew.
