Reunion 2009

The 2009 School of Music, Theatre & Dance Reunion was an enormous success!

The School’s Homecoming weekend activities began with the State of the School address by Dean Christopher Kendall on Friday, September 25th.  Dean Kendall spoke to SMTD Board members and alumni about the continued strength of the School thanks to an impressive incoming class that added to the School’s already extraordinary cohort.

The reunion continued on the 25th with the second annual Alumni Open Choral Sing. More than 100 alumni from SMTD and across the University sang Mozart’s Requiem on-stage at Hill Auditorium. The sing was led by Paul Rardin, Associate Professor of Choral Conducting and Director of the Men’s Glee Club.

Later that afternoon, Music, Theatre & Dance alums along with faculty, students and staff gathered in the mezzanine of Hill Auditorium to celebrate the 2009 Alumni Award Winners and the Class of 1959. The afternoon Wine & Cheese Reception included remarks by alumni award winners along with Dean Christopher Kendall and Alumni Society Board Chair Michael Mark.

The day ended with the University Symphony Orchestra’s first performance of the academic year at Hill Auditorium. Kenneth Kiesler conducted a concert of Russian music that opened with the Shostakovich Festival Overture, then moved on to his second Cello Concerto, and finished with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Fifth Symphony.

The reunion concluded with a Michigan win at the Big House where alumni, faculty and staff celebrated a victory against Indiana at the homecoming game on Saturday, September 26th. Look to the spring issue of Michigan Muse for information on the 2010 Reunion, scheduled for October 15-17, 2010. Go Blue!
