SMTD Friends Groups

All donors to the Department of Dance are recognized as Friends of Dance.

Donations to the Friends of Dance Fund directly enrich the educational experiences and opportunities available to dance students by bringing in guest artists, lecturers, and choreographers to work with students in master classes and workshops. Support from Friends also funds student travel to the American College Dance Festival Association Regional Conference each spring where students present their own original choreography. Donations to the Delanghe Endowment Fund provide funding for student scholarships and assist the Department in attracting top talent to its program.

Friends of Dance enjoy many benefits, including a priority ticket purchasing period for SMTD productions; special invitation to a performance reception; recognition in the main stage productions programs; and email newsletters with the latest updates from the Department of Dance.


All donors to the Department of Voice are recognized as Friends of Opera.

Donations to the Friends of Opera Fund directly enrich the educational experiences and enhance the opportunities available to voice students by underwriting production costs for opera workshops, purchasing vocal scores for the main stage productions, funding visits by guest artists to teach master classes, and awarding a cash prize for the winner of the annual Friends of Opera vocal competition. Donations to the Friends of Opera Endowed Scholarship provide funding for student scholarships and assist the Department of Voice in attracting top talent to its program.

Friends of Opera enjoy many benefits, including a priority ticket purchasing period for SMTD productions; invitations to events like the fall opera afterglow and competition winners’ recital; recognition in the main stage productions programs; and email newsletters with updates from the Department of voice.


All donors to the Department of Musical Theatre are recognized as Friends of Musical Theatre.

Donations to the Friends of Musical Theatre Fund directly enrich the educational experiences and enhancement opportunities available to musical theatre students by bringing in guest directors, choreographers, agents, casting directors, and other artists to work with students. Support from the Friends also funds the annual Senior Showcase performances in New York City, a crucial component for introducing the senior class to industry professionals and launching their careers. Donations to the Friends of Musical Theatre Endowed Scholarship provide funding for student scholarships and assist the Department in attracting top talent to its program.

Friends of Musical Theatre enjoy many benefits, including a priority ticket purchasing, period for SMTD productions; invitations to events like the “Welcome Back” reception and “lost in Ann Arbor” cabaret; recognition in the main stage production programs; and email newsletters with the latest updates from the Department of Musical Theatre.

Donations to the Friends of Theatre & Drama Fund directly enrich the educational experiences and enhance the opportunities available to theatre students by bringing in guest directors, agents, playwrights, and other industry insiders to work with them. Donations to the Friends of Theatre & Drama Endowment Fund provide funding for student scholarships and assist the Department in attracting top talent to its program.

Friends of Theatre & Drama enjoy many benefits, including a priority ticket purchasing period for SMTD productions; invitations to events like the Welcome Back reception and Senior Tribute Night; recognition in the main stage production programs; and email newsletters with updates from the Department of Theatre & Drama.

The Michigan Marching Band Elbel Club provides valuable support for the most urgent funding priorities for the Michigan Marching Band, including support for student scholarships, uniform and instrument purchases, and funding for Graduate Student instructor positions.

Over 400 strong, the Marching Band members represent nearly all academic units on campus. The MMB provides an environment where students learn teamwork, time management, and life lessons that supplement those taught in the classroom.
