Scholarship Stories

Scholarships allow our faculty to recruit the highest achieving students, removing financial barriers and providing competitive merit funding for those considering peer institutions. Scholarships allow students to choose Michigan and, once they’re here, to focus on their studies while taking advantage of everything this great institution has to offer. This year alone, named scholarship funds supported 450 SMTD students and provided $5.8 million in essential support.

These are just a handful of stories among many that illustrate the tremendous impact scholarships have on students’ lives.

Meet Anirudh Keshamouni (BFA ‘22, acting) who was able to continue his artistic journey at SMTD this year with support from the Marilyn Bennett Memorial Scholarship in Theatre.

Hear from Jack Mastrianni (BFA ‘21, musical theatre) about his long-standing dream to attend SMTD inspired by Benj Pasek (BFA ‘06, musical theatre) and Justin Paul (BFA ‘06, musical theatre), and made possible by the Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Scholarship.

Learn about the success Amber Merritt (MM ‘21, voice) has experienced as a student of Dr. Louise Toppin (DMA ‘90, voice) and a recipient of the Gary Glaze and Cynthia Munzer Endowed Vocal Arts Scholarship.

Listen to Mehra Endowed Scholarship recipient Courtney Ziegelmeyer (BFA ‘21, dance) share her gratitude for the ways in which she has grown at SMTD not only as an artist but as an individual.

Please consider joining our family of donors who make opportunities like these available to all SMTD students.
