Connecticut Summerfest Internship

 

EXCEL works with Connecticut Summerfest  to support a summer arts management intern during their weeklong festival in Connecticut. 

Connecticut Summerfest brings together talented emerging composers with some of the country’s most inventive chamber music ensembles for a week-long festival of artistic exchange culminating in nine world premieres. Connecticut Summerfest is proud to amplify voices of composers from historically underrepresented groups, specifically gender diverse composers and composers of color.

2022 Season
2022 will be Connecticut Summerfest’s seventh season and is planned to be their first season back in-person in West Hartford, CT after two virtual seasons! Connecticut Summerfest offers four free, live-streamed concerts each year, showcasing our ensembles and the nine new works of our festival composition students.

Arts Management Internship

Connecticut Summerfest brings together talented emerging composers with some of the country’s most inventive chamber music ensembles for a week-long festival of artistic exchange culminating in nine world premieres. The festival provides the Greater Hartford community with contemporary music concerts of the highest caliber through a nightly concert series featuring three ensembles-in-residence and brand-new pieces written by festival composition students. Connecticut Summerfest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

This internship is open to students pursuing a degree in music, arts management, business, or marketing. Eligible students must be at least 18 years of age by June 2022, and have a valid driver’s license. The internship will begin February 2022 and span the length of Connecticut Summerfest (June 9-15, 2022), taking place on the University of Hartford campus at The Hartt School. The student will be housed and fed at Connecticut Summerfest for the duration of the festival.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Application deadline: Friday, January 14, 2022
  • Finalist interviews: Week of January 24, 2022
  • Internship start: February 2022 (remote work January–May)
  • Internship end: June 15, 2022
  • Intern travel, housing, and meals will be funded from June 9th through 15th, 2022
  • Intern will receive an honorarium for their work (amount dependent on travel, housing, and dining expenses)
Internship Details:
  • Open to students pursuing a degree in music, arts management, business, marketing, or a related field
  • Up to 4 hours per week of work (remote work and flexible hours January–May)
  • Meet regularly via Zoom, phone, or in-person with Festival Director Gala Flagello
  • Facility with Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and Facebook Business
  • Ability to take photographs representative of festival events using the festival’s Nikon camera
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 by June 9, 2022 and adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols as outlined by the University of Hartford
