Julia Hoffert is the recruitment coordinator for the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. She provides leadership for the SMTD in student recruitment for all programs in music, theatre, dance, and musical theatre, and also serves as the lead admissions counselor for Strings, Woodwinds, Organ, Voice, and undergraduate Music Education applicants.
Prior to joining the SMTD, Hoffert held the post of recruitment and PPIA coordinator for the U-M Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. During her time at the Ford School, Hoffert was a founding member of the CRM Admissions Pilot group. This group researched, tested, and implemented a CRM system currently being used by six schools and the Office of Student Life, with hopes to see an enterprise CRM structure for the university. Former positions include assistant director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment at New York University.
Hoffert is also an active performer, having earned her bachelors and masters degrees in vocal performance from New York University’s Steinhardt School where she studied with Michael Ricciardone and Dianna Heldman and coached with Grant Wenaus, am SMTD alumnus and former professor.
Currently, Hoffert is a member of the chorus at the Michigan Opera Theatre and is also continuing her vocal studies with SMTD alumnus Curtis Peters as well as participating in community theatre. As a performer in New York, Hoffert was seen in various regional opera companies (favorite roles include Siebel in Faust and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro), but most notably cherished her time as a member of the extra chorus ensemble at the Metropolitan Opera for four seasons.
