Janelle Hignite

Admissions Counselor

Janelle Hignite is an Admissions Counselor for the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. She evaluates applications and meets with prospective students for Music Education, Musicology, Music Theory, Organ, Voice, and Winds & Brass (excluding Saxophone). 

Hignite graduated from SMTD in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and was a member of Professor David Jackson’s trombone studio. During her time as a student, she participated in many ensembles, including the University of Michigan Trombone Ensemble, Concert Band, chamber groups and collaborative recitals, while also working as a student in the Office of Admissions. Hignite also completed student teaching at Renaissance High School in Detroit, MI and at East Middle School in Ypsilanti, MI.

After graduation, Hignite worked for a year as the Auditions Assistant in the SMTD Office of Admissions. She then worked for two years in production and as Festival Administrator for the MasterWorks Festival in Winona Lake, IN (now Spartanburg, SC). 

For the past six years, Hignite did extensive work in student mentoring and coaching leadership development with Cru at U-M. Her work for Cru also involved significant experience in outreach, fundraising and communication. 

Hignite is thrilled to return to her alma mater and to help the next generation of the Leaders and Best achieve their dreams here at SMTD!
