Carrie ThromLecturer, EXCEL
Now an adjunct lecturer with the EXCEL program, Carrie Throm joined the School of Music, Theatre & Dance as director of development & external relations in September of 2005 and was appointed assistant dean for development & external relations in September 2007.
Prior to accepting the position in Ann Arbor, Throm was director of development & external relations at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music from 2001 to 2005. She also served as director of Public Relations for CCM from 1998 to 2001. Before joining the staff at Cincinnati, she served as director of publicity, and later director of public relations and external affairs, at Indiana University School of Music from 1992-97.
Throm earned her bachelor’s degree in economics, magna cum laude, with a minor in French horn from the University of California – San Diego and her master’s degree in arts administration from Indiana University. She has enjoyed performing in amateur orchestras most of her adult life and has acted as a volunteer for numerous non-profit organizations. Additionally, Throm has led seminars and acted as a consultant on public relations and development issues.
In 2004 she was recognized as a “Rising Star” by the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati for her leadership and volunteerism in the community, an award nominated by University of Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher. Throm resides in Ann Arbor with her husband Peter and her daughter Emma.
