Dear SMTD Community,
We write today to call your attention to the statement released on Friday by President Schlissel and Provost Collins regarding the extremely concerning Presidential Executive Order that was released on September 22. This article from the Chronicle of Higher Education provides further context. The Executive Order imposes limits on the types of discourse that can occur during diversity and inclusion training within the federal government and in outside entities that receive federal grants.
We stand with the statement by President Schlissel and Provost Collins.
As we shared this summer in our statement to act against racial injustice, we are fully committed to this work. It is critical that we continue to embrace the notion that academic and artistic excellence is inseparable from an abiding and pervasive institutional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
