Michigan Youth Jazz Orchestra

The Michigan Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) provides advanced experience performing a variety of big band repertoire in venues throughout Southeast Michigan. Due to restrictions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, MYJO will be moving online for the 2020-21 Season! This online format will include rehearsals with SMTD faculty and students, as well as semi-regular educational webinars ranging on subjects specific to the MYJO ensemble, SMTD admission and much more. This online version will also include performance and/or presentations by professional jazz artists.

The online MYJO ensemble will be open to all high-school aged instrumentalists interested in jazz and/or improvisation. It is recommended for students to have at least one year of jazz experience if they wish to participate but not required.
