The Department of Conducting is one of the nation’s most highly-ranked and esteemed graduate conducting programs. Mentored by world-class conductors and surrounded by supportive and talented colleagues, students gain first-hand experience leading a wide-range of ensembles.

The Department of Music Education is dedicated to providing future music educators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and insights for successful teaching and learning, and has a 100 percent job placement rate for graduates seeking positions in music education.

The Department of Music Education offers a Summer MM Music Education Degree program. Applications are open until February 3!

The Department of Entrepreneurship & Leadership provides diverse training and resources for all U-M students, and particularly those invested in becoming the arts leaders of tomorrow.

MPulse Performing Arts Institutes bring approximately 250 eligible young people to the Ann Arbor campus each summer to pursue excellence in music performance, music technology, musical theatre, theatre, and dance. Sessions are designed for students who are considering studying these areas in college and would like to gain exposure to the rigorous training provided by the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). Participants hail from Michigan, across the U.S., and around the globe.

The Michigan Youth Ensembles (MYE) program brings together exceptional high school students for weekly rehearsals at the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance. MYE Students, who are selected by audition, have the opportunity to engage in a stimulating environment, while learning from U-M conductors, applied faculty, and graduate students. Audition information for the 2021-2022 academic year will be available soon!
