Repertoire and Other Requirements for Precandidates - Percussion

The repertoire requirement for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in percussion performance must be satisfied prior to admission to candidacy except where individual works or specific repertoire categories will be covered in the dissertation recitals. The requirement shall include an extensive selection of important repertoire in the following categories: solo, concerto, chamber music, and orchestral excerpts. A list of this repertoire must be submitted for approval at the preliminary examination in performance. The student must give substantive evidence validating repertoire covered prior to enrollment in the Graduate School.

Specific minimum requirements for repertoire categories:

  1. Concertos for mallet-keyboard instruments: two

  2. Works for solo marimba demonstrating advanced four-mallet technique: six

  3. Works focusing on techniques idiomatic to the vibraphone: four

  4. Works for timpani: four

  5. Works for multiple percussion: four

  6. Other solo works (unaccompanied or with piano or tape): thirty

  7. Ensembles (including percussion ensembles and ensembles of diverse chamber music instrumentation): thirty
