Jamie Colburn and Jessica Gomes-Ng will perform the roles of Tony and Maria, respectively, in selections from West Side Story as part of one of the Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concert at Hill Auditorium on Nov. 18
SMTD has partnered with the Gershwin family to bring the music of George and Ira Gershwin to students, scholars, performers and audiences across campus and worldwide.
Wonza Johnson, a musical theatre freshman, was selected from more than 5,000 applicants to be one of 150 National YoungArts Foundation winners. The competition recognizes and supports some of America’s most talented 15- to 18-year-olds in the visual, literary, and performing arts. In September, he was one of only four other Foundation winners to participate in a masterclass with acclaimed actress Kathleen Turner, which was filmed by the Simon & Goodman Picture Company for HBO’s YoungArts MasterClass, a documentary series. After airing on HBO later this year, the program will be distributed, free of charge, to high schools throughout the country.
