Music Theory Department News, Winter 2012

Walter Everett, Professor of Music Theory, has been invited to speak at the Pennsylvania State University and Gettysburg College in March, 2012.  In each visit, he will present the talk, "The Creation of 'Strawberry Fields Forever.'"

Alan Gosman, Assistant Professor of Music Theory, presented a lecture on Beethoven's "Eroica" Sketchbook called "Keeping the Whole in View" as part of the Shephard School Musicology Colloquium Series at Rice University in February.

Patricia Hall, Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music Theory, will present the talk, "Leni Riefenstahl's 'Ballet' Olympia" at the Conference, "Music and Propaganda in the Visual Arts" at Warsaw's Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences on 30 March, 2012.

Andrew Mead, Professor of Music Theory, will deliver the keynote address to the colloquium, "The Legacy of Milton Babbitt," convening on 3-4 March, 2012, at Wright State University.

Bryan Parkhurst, dual-degree Ph.D. student in Philosophy and Music Theory, will deliver the talk, "Music Theory as Ethics; or, Music Theory has been Oughty, and Needs to be Disciplined," at the Music Theory Midwest meeting in Ann Arbor ,18-19 May, 2012.

Aleksandra Vojcic, Assistant Professor of Music Theory, will be speaking at the annual meeting of the Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory in Antwerp, Belgium, this April.  Her talk is entitled, "Eminem and the Power of 7."

Visitors to the School of Music, Theatre and Dance might wish to see the Music Library's exhibit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Two authentic sets of autographs, records from six countries and other artifacts will remain on display through through June.   04/21/2017

Elizabeth Batiuk (ethnomusicology) has been chosen as a fellow at the Sweetland/Rackham Dissertation Writing Institute for spring 2014 and James McNally (ethnomusicology) received a summer and academic year FLAS for the study of Portuguese.    03/17/2014

Musicology graduate student Elizabeth McLain has been awarded a prestigious Lurcy Fellowship for research in France during the 2014-2015 academic year.   03/14/2014
