Symphony International Praises SMTD Conducting Teaching Methods

 06/15/2012

In an article titled “Can Conducting Be Taught,” the methods and techniques for teaching conducting at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, under the direction of department head Kenneth Kiesler, are cited for being particularly effective. The article appears on the website of Symphony Services International, an Australian organization whose members include the six major symphony orchestras of Australia. The article includes a large paragraph that focuses on SMTD’s “excellent reputation” as a school for conducting. “What makes Kiesler’s approach different to other conducting pedagogues is his willingness to push the boundaries further than most in terms of what aspects of conducting are teachable.”
