Melody Racine, senior associate dean for academic, faculty, and student affairs at SMTD will step in as interim dean of the school, effective Aug. 16.
SMTD has partnered with the Gershwin family to bring the music of George and Ira Gershwin to students, scholars, performers and audiences across campus and worldwide.
Composer and singer Lisa Bielawa was a guest composer at the UM composition seminar. She visited Ann Arbor in conjunction with the Philip Glass opera tour of "Einstein on the Beach." Her visit included a discussion of Einstein, the challenges of starting a career as a composer, and the need for music in ones life. On the latter she stated, "Not everyone needs music, but those that do really, really need it."
Alumnus Michael-Thomas Foumai, MM '11, DMA '14, was named one of the 2017 Morton Gould Young Composer Award recipients by ASCAP. 03/30/2017
