Fourth Annual U-M International Trumpet Institute Takes Place in France

 06/01/2012

As reported by the International Trumpet Guild, trumpet students from the University of Michigan’s School of Music participated in the fourth annual University of Michigan International Trumpet Institute (UMITI) this past May (2012). The institute studies began in L’Abbaye de Pontlevoy in the Loire region of France and continued at the Conservatoire National de Region de Rueil-Malmaison in Paris. Trumpet professor Bill Campbell again coordinated and directed the institute. From his studio, he selected Joseph Nibley (MM); Katherine Cosgrove (MM); Matthew Bloomfield (BM); and Paula Guro (BM) to attend. Rajung Yang, a U-M alumnus and current assistant professor of piano at the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music, performed for her third year as a pianist with the institute. The UMITI expanded its concert repertoire to include works for trumpet and voice with the addition of recognized operatic soprano Lucia Lumachi-Campbell.
