2016 Brehm Prize in Choral Composition Awarded

Iman Habibi, a DMA student in composition, is the winner of SMTD's 2016 Brehm Prize in Choral Composition. The winning composition, "The Rose of Midnight," is based off a poem by Vachel Lindsay. Habibi was among several talented and imaginative composers who submitted to this year's competition. The Brehm Prize in Choral Composition is a yearly tradition established by William (BS '50, MS '52) and Dolores Brehm to encourage the composition of choral works. Professor Jerry Blackstone, director of Choirs and chair of the Conducting Department, said, "'The Rose of Midnight' is a beautifully evocative piece, and I look forward to leading the performance of the work with the Chamber Choir during the Fall 2016 term."
