The winners of SMTD's inaugural Dale and Nancy Briggs Chamber Music Competition were announced on Saturday, April 5 following a five-hour event in Stamps Auditorium in which eight exceptional ensembles performed. Taking first place was a string quartet comprising violinists Grace Kim and Chauntee Ross, Omar Shelley on viola, and Jacob Wunsch on cello. They received a $2,500 cash award.

The second place winner was a piano quintet compriing violinists David West and Kazato Inoue, Amy Pikler on viola, Eric Haugen on cello, and Monika Miodragovic on piano. Their cash prize was $1,000. All of the competing ensembles will be considered for invitations to perform in venues on and off campus next year.

The Briggs Chamber Music Competition was created in an ongoing effort to encourage the excellence of chamber music performance at SMTD and to provide performance opportunities for various ensembles. It is named in honor of its benefactors and evolved from the Dale and Nancy Briggs Chamber Music Endowed Enrichment Fund, established in 2004 and endowed in 2006, to support program and/or scholarship needs in chamber music. The competition is open to ensembles comprising three to six players in any combination of instruments and /or voice.
