Concerto Competition Winners Announced

 01/10/2014

The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance has announced the winners of the 2014 Concerto Competition. The undergraduate winners are cellist Daniel Poceta, a junior, who performed William Walton’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra; and pianist Andrew Wang, a senior, who performed Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto no. 1 in D-flat Major.

The winners in the graduate division are both vocalists: soprano Antonina Chekhovskaya, singing Richard Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder (Four Last Songs), who will earn her master’s in voice this May and her master’s in choral conducting next year; and tenor Jesse Donner, singing Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder, who will receive his specialist in music degree in voice performance next year.

The annual Concerto Competition takes place over two days each January at Hill Auditorium. Each winning student will perform their competition piece with one of the School's orchestras in an upcoming concert at Hill. The performances schedules will be announced later this year.

Congratulations to the winners!
