Patrick Harlin Composition to be Performed by St. Louis Symphony

 02/26/2013

A recent work by DMA composition student Patrick Harlin will be performed by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra next fall in classical subscription series concerts. The work, titled Rapture, will be performed by the SLS on Sept. 27 and 28 at Powell Hall in St. Louis, MO. The program will also include Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Ein Heldenleben by Strauss. This will be Harlin's second performance in Missouri, the first being the premiere of his work Shadow Dancer by the renowned chamber orchestra Alarm WIll Sound at the 2012 MIZZOU International Composers Festival. Harlin was selected as a resident composer for the 2012 festival where he spent a week working with the ensemble. Shadow Dancer for full orchestra had its premiere by the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra in February under the baton of graduate student conductor Elim Chan.

In 2012 La Orchestra Metropolitana de Cordoba of Argentina commissioned Harlin for a string orchestra work titled Marea Alta. He attended the world premiere at El Teatro del Libertador in Cordoba, and gave master classes at the local universities. Marea Alta will receive its U.S. premiere later this spring at the University of Michigan. Harlin has also been selected as a composer for the 2013 Aspen Summer Music Festival, in Aspen, CO. To listen to his music visit www.patrickharlin.com.
