Music Theory Department News, December 2010

David Heetderks, Ph.D. candidate in Music Theory, has had his article, "A Tonal Revolution in Fifths and Semitones: Aaron Copland's Quiet City," accepted for publication in Music Theory Online. It is scheduled to appear in early 2011.

Marion Guck, Professor of Music in Music Theory, has been invited to deliver the keynote address to the Indiana University Symposium of Research in Music Theory in February, 2011.

Brian Hyer (University of Wisconsin - Madison) will visit campus in February, 2011, as the Michigan Distinguished Resident in Music Theory.  He will present a talk and work individually with graduate students who share topics of interest.

Scott Burnham (Princeton University) and Rebecca Leydon (Oberlin College) will present papers in the Carrigan Visiting Lecture Series next year.  Prof. Burnham will be on campus in March, 2011, and Prof. Leydon will visit in November.

SMTD students Zoe Kumagai, Stephanie Aboukasm, and Adam DesJardins are among students profiled in an LSA article about the "Michigan in Washington" program, in which students intern at various Washington, DC organizations and businesses, including the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center, and the Washington Performing Arts Society.    12/10/2013
