Ann Arbor Dance Works (AADW), the resident professional dance company of the University of Michigan, celebrates its 30th anniversary season with A Feast of Dances, featuring exciting new works and revivals by School of Music, Theatre & Dance faculty choreographers. The free performances (advance tickets required) take place Thursday, June 18 and Friday, June 19, at 7:30 pm at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), 525 S. State St., Ann Arbor.
Featuring choreography by dance faculty Missy Beck, Amy Chavasse, Bill DeYoung, Jessica Fogel, Peter Sparling, Sandra Torijano, and Robin Wilson, A Feast of Dances invites audiences to travel through UMMA "to savor a rich array of dance delicacies." The evening will conclude with a dessert reception--with real cake--to celebrate the festive occasion.
In addition to works by current faculty members, the program will also include an excerpt from Gay Delanghe's exuberant work set to the music of Fats Waller, Dancin' Fats, performed in 1985 on the company's inaugural concert. Delanghe, who died in 2006, was one of the founders of AADW, along with Bill DeYoung, Peter Sparling, and Jessica Fogel. The company they created is dedicated to the collaborative process and to sharing a diverse repertory with audiences; its dancers include faculty members, alumni professionals, guest artists, and the top dancers in SMTD's Department of Dance.
The concerts have been generously sponsored and funded by University of Michigan Gay Delanghe Endowment Fund; University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance Faculty Research Fund; University of Michigan Department of Dance; and University of Michigan Museum of Art.
Seating for the performances is limited and tickets are required. Tickets can be reserved through the Michigan Union Ticket Office in person at 530 S. State Street; by calling (734) 763-8587; or by visiting mutotix.com. Remaining tickets will be distributed at the door on the day of the performance, beginning at 6:30 PM. Visit the AADW website for more information about the event and about the company.
