Jazz Week Celebration Draws To A Close

 12/07/2012

The Department of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at U-M’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance celebrated its 25th anniversary from November 30-December 7. “Jazz Week” featured a series of performances, workshops, and panel discussions in commemoration of the history of the department. Widely acclaimed for its innovative bridging of mainstream jazz with explorations of the broader improvised music spectrum, the department welcomed back alumni, many of whom have launched highly successful careers in the field, to perform with current students and faculty and share thoughts about the impact of their experience at Michigan on their development. Past and present faculty and administrators also took part in the celebration, and reflected on the significance of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University and in the field at large.
