Barry LaRue is the senior performance hall operations manager at University Productions, where he has served as a theatrical technician since 1980. In addition to scheduling technicians at SMTD’s large venues (Power Center, Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, Hill Auditorium, and Rackham Auditorium), La Rue assists senior management at University Productions with capital purchases, renovations, and other upgrades to SMTD facilities. He has a BS in speech and dramatic arts from Eastern Michigan University, where he also completed a certification in secondary education. La Rue is married to U-M senior writer Kim Clarke and resides in the Depot Town area of Ypsilanti, where he served 12 years on city council as well as numerous boards and commissions over the years. He currently serves on the boards of the Riverside Arts Center, Ypsilanti Heritage Foundation, Washtenaw Visitors & Convention Bureau, and the Highland Cemetery Association. He has two children and two grandchildren.
