Leyya is the Artistic Director of Dance Elixir, based in San Francisco. She has received numerous grants and awards including the prestigious UM Emerging Artist Award in Dance 2008. Leyya’s work for Dance Elixir has been presented internationally in Montreal, Amsterdam, London, the Czech Republic and at the Beirut Internat’l Platform of Dance 2009. Within the US, Dance Elixir has been presented by San Francisco International Arts Festival, Dance New Amsterdam (NYC), The Flea (NYC), Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, Arab American National Museum’s Ford Comerica Performance Series (MI), Bohemian National Home (MI), Arts at Middlebury (VT), Alwan for the Arts (NYC), and throughout CA. Leyya has taught in professional studios and academic institutions since 1997. From 2007-09 she was the Middlebury College Artist-In-Residence in Dance (VT). She is also the co-director of Temescal Arts Center in Oakland, CA. Leyya received her MFA from Mills College, Oakland.
